Deputy Strida Geagea confirmed, on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the port explosion crime, that the "Lebanese Forces" party has, from the very first moment, specifically since August 6, 2020, demanded through its president, Samir Geagea, an international fact-finding commission regarding the crime. At that time, we heard many comments and criticisms for taking this stance, and our response was that we do not trust that they would allow the judiciary to do its job properly in order to reach the truth about this crime. Today, after four years, we find that what we feared has happened; the investigations have been obstructed at times by requests to dismiss judges and at other times by open threats and warnings from those affected by the pursuit of justice."
Deputy Geagea promised the families of the martyrs and all those affected by the Beirut port explosion that the "Lebanese Forces" will continue its efforts to reach the truth and will spare no effort in this pursuit. She stated, "As we approach the fourth anniversary of this tragic explosion, I want to clarify to everyone that our support for this cause is not only because it affected our people in the capital but also because it is a matter of justice, a matter of a people from whom hundreds were killed, thousands were injured, and tens of thousands were displaced."
She continued: "It is true that the crime of the port explosion was a massacre against the residents of our beloved capital, but it embodies the reality of the Lebanese people today, who can be killed, injured, or displaced at any moment without warning and for reasons unrelated to them and that have no connection to the higher national interest. This is the situation of the Lebanese people today in general, and the people of the South in particular. We live moment by moment without knowing what the next moment holds for us because there are those who obstruct our presidential elections, keep us in a state of vacuum, paralyze our constitutional institutions, and decide our fate and future for the benefit of an external axis that serves interests we have no stake in."
Geagea concluded: "Our efforts did not stop there; the 'Strong Republic' bloc organized several visits for Arab and international officials to push towards the establishment of an international fact-finding commission, and it will continue in this endeavor."
Geagea's remarks came during her chairing of the Administrative Board meeting of the "Mountain of Arz Foundation" in Maarab, in the presence of former deputy Joseph Ishak, Vice President of the Foundation Dr. Leila Geagea, Treasurer Fadi Shdiaq, Secretary Lawyer Mario Sabb, Board member Engineer Nadim Salama, financial expert Fadi Eid, and Assistant Deputy Geagea Romanos Al-Shahr.
