Kataeb: No Covering Up Atrocities Under the Pretext of Protecting Lebanese Citizens

The Kataeb political bureau held a meeting chaired by party leader Deputy Sami Gemayel, and after reviewing the latest data on the situation in Lebanon, it issued a statement expressing its sorrow over "the massacre that occurred in Majdal Shams, which claimed the lives of innocent children and youths who fell victim to the insistence on playing on the edge of the abyss, crossing all red lines and mocking all internal and external warnings."

The statement added: "As Lebanese issues have been relegated to the bottom of priorities, and Lebanon along with the region stands on the brink of an armed and security explosion, Hezbollah, as usual, resorts to hiding behind the Lebanese state, which has become a pliant tool in its hands, used whenever needed and bearing the responsibility for negotiations regarding its actions, without hesitating to dispatch its foreign relations official to impose his directives on the Lebanese Foreign Minister."

It considered that "the true Lebanese state, which should represent its citizens and defend their interests, should not be a mail carrier between militias and foreign references, but rather its sole duty is to maintain sovereignty, law, and the dignity of the Lebanese, being the master of its decisions in politics as well as in war."

The Kataeb party called on "the ministerial group to seize the situation and refrain from covering up any atrocities framed under the pretext of protecting the Lebanese and the state in a scenario that has become a subject of ridicule." It announced that "the Lebanese army, on the brink of its anniversary, is the only one authorized by the constitution and all internal laws and international resolutions to protect Lebanon and its citizens, safeguard the borders, and respond to any aggression, and what it needs is a political decision to translate the support of the Lebanese for their army."
