The Kataeb political bureau announced today, Tuesday, that the party and the opposition "have shown full responsiveness to numerous internal and external presidential initiatives aimed at saving Lebanon from its current deadlock during the most critical moment it is experiencing, along with the region. They have provided all possible facilitation to reach a consensus candidate that is acceptable to all parties and capable of placing the country on the international map. It has become clear that Hezbollah and its political team do not want to elect a president and are undermining initiative after initiative to clear the negotiating table for themselves to establish settlements that suit them and Iran."
The Kataeb Party also called on the "international community to stand by the Lebanese people who reject the imposed hegemony and to work on helping Lebanon emerge from external grip by pressuring Iran to stop funding an armed faction that is outside the Lebanese legitimacy, which uses its weapon freely and by sovereign decision, sometimes under the pretext of supporting the neighborhood to prevent the war from spilling into the interior, and at other times under the guise of supporting the Palestinian cause, while the intent is clearly aimed at securing a position in the regional settlement at the expense of Lebanon and the Lebanese."
It stated that "the provocations that occurred in several Lebanese areas indicate that the surplus of power and bullying has become the only method employed by Hezbollah and its allies in dealing with other Lebanese on the basis that they are first-class citizens, and those without weapons are second-class citizens.”
The party categorically rejected "the disgusting sectarian acts that occurred in Bourj Hammoud and the provocative chants directed at Christian sanctities in the area, and it considers that what happened in the Madi neighborhood during the clashes confirms that the sedition condemned by the Secretary-General of Hezbollah can only be awakened by the illegal weapons that now require a fundamental and final solution."
