One person was killed and others were injured in Nahariya when Hezbollah attacked Israel on Tuesday with a swarm of drones targeting a military site in the northern part of the country. Hezbollah announced in a statement the "attack with a swarm of suicide drones on the command centers of the Golani Brigade and Unit 621, in the Saraga barracks north of Akka," a city located near Nahariya on the Mediterranean coast.
Israeli media reported that explosive drones fell on a vehicle and a military base in Nahariya, resulting in injuries. Three drones breached the airspace of occupied Palestine coming from Lebanon.
Hezbollah stated, "This attack is in response to the raid that caused casualties in the town of Abba in southern Lebanon." Israeli media reported that two people were injured, one of whom was in critical condition, after a drone fell in Nahariya, and it was later announced that one of them had died.
Hebrew media reported continuous sirens in large areas of northern Israel, with drones targeting military sites in Nahariya, Rosh Pina, and Akka, resulting in injuries. There was widespread astonishment due to the success of Hezbollah's drones in breaching all defense systems. The mayor of Nahariya reported that several drones flew over and exploded in the city, causing damage.
Nahariya is about 11 kilometers from the Lebanese border, while Akka is around 20 kilometers away. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority quoted the mayor of Nahariya saying, "Several drones penetrated. There is damage near the city, and reports of injuries have been received." The local official urged the Israeli government to "make a decision to target Beirut in response to the targeting of Nahariya."
Tensions in the Middle East have escalated since the assassination of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last week, a day after an Israeli raid in southern Beirut that killed Hezbollah's prominent military leader Fuad Shukr. Fears of an outbreak of all-out war in the region have reached a peak following the assassinations of Haniyeh and Shukr, amid expectations of retaliation from Iran and its military wings in the area.
