Egypt's Foreign Minister: We Continue Our Diplomatic Efforts to Keep Lebanon Away from Escalation

Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Atti confirmed during a joint press conference with Lebanese Foreign Minister in the caretaker government Abdullah Bou Habib that "the regional situation is complicated and extremely dangerous, and Egypt is continuing to urge all parties in the conflict to exercise restraint and avoid the region slipping into a comprehensive regional war." He expressed Egypt's condemnation of "the escalation in the region and the repeated attacks on Lebanon." He denounced "the aggressions that Lebanon is facing, especially the bombardment of the southern suburbs, and we, as leadership, government, and people, stand in solidarity with Lebanon and its people." He stated that they "expressed our condemnation of the series of political assassinations and assassinations in general, and the complete rejection and condemnation of targeting states and their sovereignty," emphasizing that "such escalating policies will only lead to more violence in a region that has become susceptible to more conflicts."

Abdel Atti noted that they "reviewed all communications that Egypt is making with various parties, and these communications are ongoing and intensive to work on stopping the escalation and preventing the region from sliding into a regional war," indicating that "I assured Bou Habib that we will spare no effort in continuing our diplomatic efforts to keep Lebanon away from this escalation." He stressed that "the only way to stop the escalation is to reach an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and to halt this unjust war on the sector, along with continuously allowing all humanitarian aid," reiterating "Egypt's support for the full, immediate, and unabridged implementation of Resolution 1701 by all relevant parties."

For his part, Bou Habib stated that "the Lebanese government is trying to prevent Hezbollah from responding to Israel in a way that could lead to a wider war," affirming that they "are working to ensure that we do not reach a total war in any response."
