Algerian boxer Imane Khlif will fight a retributive match tomorrow, Friday, against Chinese boxer Yang Liu in the final of the women's under 66 kg category at the Olympic Games in Paris. Imane Khlif has etched her name in Olympic history by reaching the final at the expense of the reigning champion, Thailand's Chanatip Sonkham.
Khlif advanced to this stage after a challenging journey marked by significant controversy due to accusations of gender transition aimed at tarnishing her reputation, as later confirmed by the International Olympic Committee.
Imane Khlif has secured at least a silver or gold medal and will face Chinese athlete Yang Liu, who earned her place in the final by defeating Taiwanese boxer Hsin Ning Hsin. Khlif will have the opportunity for revenge against Liu after being denied a match against her in the 2023 World Championship final, citing elevated testosterone levels. Following Khlif's disqualification from the 2023 World Championship final, Yang Liu won the gold medal for that competition by administrative decision.
