Mohammed Abu Tarboush, the head of public work for Hamas, confirmed that "the movement, by selecting Yahya Sinwar as the head of its political bureau, conveys multiple messages, primarily a message of defiance to Israel." In an interview with Sputnik Radio, he explained that "Hamas chose someone who has carried the burden of fighting in Gaza since October 7 to tell the Israeli army that there will be no retreat from the principles that the movement has chosen to stop the aggression on the Gaza Strip. Additionally, there is a message directed at the United States indicating that Hamas is united in its decisions and determined to move forward in its struggle regardless of the challenges."
On the internal front, Abu Tarboush stated that "the movement chose Sinwar to affirm to the Palestinian people that it is capable of shouldering the responsibility in this battle and that the goals of the Israeli army from assassinating leaders will not be achieved." He emphasized that "choosing Sinwar does not change anything regarding the movement's strategy concerning the war on Gaza, and Hamas is open to negotiations with a great deal of positivity," while pointing out that "Israel is trying to maneuver and deceive, and it was essential to confront it with its toughest adversaries, which necessitates that Tel Aviv reconsider its negotiation logic."
The Hamas leader also noted that "Sinwar has not been far from negotiations, but responses have been delayed due to logistical circumstances." He added that "the Deputy Head of the Political Bureau, Khalil Hayya, heads the negotiation file and is in constant consultation with Hamas leaders who are committed to Ismail Haniyeh's principles regarding the ceasefire and reconstruction." Abu Tarboush dismissed the notion that "Sinwar's selection represents a victory for the Iran axis over the Turkey and Qatar axis," announcing that "there are no changes in the regional positions of the movement, and the allies of the Palestinian resistance remain steadfast."
