Biden Organizes Campaign to Support Harris in Pennsylvania

U.S. President Joe Biden stated in remarks broadcast today, Sunday, that he "will organize a campaign to support Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in Pennsylvania," a key swing state in the upcoming presidential election scheduled for November. Biden made his comments in an interview with CBS, his first since announcing at the end of July his withdrawal from the presidential race against Republican candidate Donald Trump due to concerns about the future of American democracy.

Harris is leading Trump by four points in Pennsylvania, as well as in two other key swing states: Wisconsin and Michigan, according to two polls conducted by The New York Times and Siena College, published yesterday, Saturday. When asked if he would organize a campaign to support Harris, Biden replied, "Yes." He added that he and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro are working on "organizing a campaign tour in Pennsylvania. I will campaign in other states as well and will do everything I can to provide the greatest possible assistance."

Biden, who decided to withdraw from the presidential race following a disastrous performance in a debate against Trump on June 27, noted that internal polls predicted a very close race. He stated: "But what happened is that a number of my Democratic colleagues in both the House and Senate felt I would harm them in their races, and I was concerned that if I stayed in the race, this would be the topic that I would be interviewed about."

In a clip from the interview released last Wednesday, Biden expressed uncertainty about a peaceful transfer of power in the United States if Trump were to lose.
