French President Emmanuel Macron commented today, Monday, on the success of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He stated in press remarks that "we foiled hundreds of activities that threatened security during the Olympics," emphasizing that the Paris 2024 Games were a success in terms of security and organization, as well as in terms of sports and public engagement.
In this regard, he said, "Many said we were unable to organize it (in the current political circumstances), but we succeeded." The French president addressed the organizing figures and bodies, saying that the Olympics showcased France's true face, and the entire nation owes you gratitude, considering what was achieved as an unprecedented security accomplishment.
Macron mentioned in his statements that "France can do great things when it is united," while stating that the only losers were the pessimists who expected organizational failure. He added in an interview published today by L'Équipe, a day after the conclusion of the Paris 2024 Olympics, that "there is a loser, which is the spirit of defeat, all those who have been telling us for seven years that hosting the Olympics was madness."
He also recalled those who thought that the opening ceremony on the River Seine was "unreasonable in terms of security," and those who believed that France would not win a significant number of medals, that the Olympics would be "a pit swallowing money," and that it would not be possible to purify the Seine’s waters in time for swimming competitions.
He concluded, "We succeeded in all of that in the end; it feels great, it is the result of massive teamwork, and it proves that France is capable of achieving great accomplishments when united."
