Hamas leader Osama Hamdan stated that the movement is facing difficulties in communicating with its new leader, Yahya Sinwar, who is currently hiding in Gaza. Hamdan had previously mentioned that "negotiations were managed by the leadership, with Sinwar always present." He emphasized that "negotiations were led by the leadership and Sinwar was always involved; he was not far from the negotiations," pointing out that "it is too early to talk about the outcome of the negotiation process." He said, "The team that followed the negotiations during the time of the martyr Haniya will continue to do so under Sinwar's leadership."
Regarding Sinwar's capture, the commander of the Israeli army's 98th Brigade, Dan Goldfus, revealed in statements to Channel 12 that Israeli forces were just meters and minutes away from capturing Yahya Sinwar. Goldfus stated in the interview aired on Sunday: "We were close. We were in his complex; we reached an underground compound. We found a lot of money there, and the coffee was still hot. Weapons were scattered everywhere." Over the past few months, the Israeli army has repeatedly claimed it was getting closer to him, but the number one target in Israel, nicknamed the "living dead man," escaped each time. In February, the army broadcast a video showing Sinwar in a tunnel under Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, surrounded by "his wife and two or three of his children."
