The weather observer, Sadiq Atiyah, announced today, Wednesday, that Iraq is facing a new wave of heat, with temperatures surpassing 50 degrees Celsius in the southern regions and the Middle Euphrates. Atiyah wrote on Facebook: "With temperatures ranging between 50-51 degrees Celsius in cities in the southern part of the country, and slightly lower in other cities, it is expected that by the end of this week the cities will be affected by a heatwave lasting several days." He pointed out that "the wave is due to a semi-tropical high-pressure system in the upper layers of the atmosphere, causing rising winds and trapping heat in a portion of the atmosphere (heat dome) for several days." Atiyah reported that "the strongest effects of the wave will be felt in the southern cities and the Middle Euphrates, with some regions, particularly in the south and southwest, experiencing periods of calm in surface wind speeds, making the atmosphere exhausting and extremely hot."
