The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Department issued the following statement: "On August 1, 2024, information was received by the Information Division of the Internal Security Forces regarding the disappearance of a citizen, M.B. (born in 1998) in Shakka, near the tunnel. He had gone to that area late at night with his friend A.R. (born in 2000, Lebanese). Immediately, the specialized units of the division began field and inquiry procedures to uncover the circumstances of his disappearance.
During questioning, A.R. stated that he and his friend went to consume alcoholic beverages near the tunnel, which is a rugged and uninhabited area. While they were there, they were attempted to be robbed by unknown individuals. When they resisted, they were pushed into a ravine leading to the sea. He was able to stabilize himself and escape, while his friend disappeared from his sight, and despite extensive searching, he could not be found. He also mentioned that he contacted the family of the missing person using the latter's phone, but no one came to assist him. A.R. further claimed that nothing was stolen from them and that he lost his friend's phone during the search.
On the same date, a lifeless body was found on one of the rocks adjacent to the sea near the National Cement Company port. It was retrieved to the shore and identified as belonging to M.B. A cap belonging to him was also found in the "Mahwar" area.
As a result of the investigation, and due to inconsistencies in A.R.'s statements, he became a suspect. When questioned again by the division’s investigators, he confessed that an argument occurred between him and his friend while they were under the influence of drugs, and he pushed him off the cliff, causing him to fall into the water and die. Legal procedures were taken against him, and he was detained along with his phone, based on judicial instructions."
