Member of the "Strong Lebanon" bloc, Deputy Ibrahim Kanaan, affirmed, "We are a political national current born from the womb of suffering, led by an exceptional inspiring leader, who motivated us to share and not to impose upon us a path of freedom, dignity, and commitment to the issues of the nation."
Kanaan, in a press conference, stated that "the current phase requires unity and maintaining the role, unity, and parliamentary weight of the current, and I consider myself a trustee of this, and my history and practice are testament to that." He stressed that "division is a path to end and collapse, and the history of Lebanese parties provides us with ample evidence of this, as any house that divides against itself will surely fall apart."
He noted that "the anxiety of the base cannot be addressed through neglect and adherence to texts, but rather through dialogue, understanding, and calm communication, as the rift will harm the current, its principles, injure its struggle, and betray its history."
Kanaan called for "a serious and deep dialogue that brings together party roots and bases on one hand, and solidarity and unity on the other," proposing the following:
1. Reversing all prior stances and decisions regarding separation, resignations, and disciplinary referrals.
2. Ceasing media campaigns among members of the same house.
3. Granting a one-week period to resolve the commitment issue through direct dialogue, which should begin with agreement on its framework and content, which, in my opinion, must prioritize adherence to the current’s path and principles above any technical, regulatory, or formal matters, as principles take precedence over administrative systems.
4. Committing to party decisions based on a clear and transparent democratic mechanism that transcends formalities, towards actual participation in decision-making, true to what Pope Francis said about synodality: that we walk together, for no one can claim to know the path alone nor claim to know the goal; in other words, together we can understand the way and where we are heading."
5. The return of everyone to the party institution and participation in its meetings, holding a retreat for the parliamentary bloc to outline the political and national priorities for the upcoming phase, as we have been accustomed to since our inception (2005 – 2018).
