The company "Zara" has withdrawn a boys' shirt from sale after a mother complained that it featured a "sexually suggestive" slogan. The retail clothing company pulled the item from its website and stores after Laura Wilson, a mother of two, filmed her reaction upon finding the £10.99 piece at a shopping center in Kent on August 10.
The front of the simple white shirt displays the words "the perfect snack" and "strawberries: a little wave of lovely joy." The back of the shirt reveals halves of strawberries with the phrase: "Take a bite. A dose of sweet joy, making it the perfect summer snack. Strawberries: a little wave of joy."
Wilson, a content creator from Bromley, Southeast London, stated in the video, "I'm not someone who's overly sensitive about clothing, but I was in Zara that day and this was in the girls' section... just wait until you see the back. If you buy this for your child, you need to have a serious conversation with yourself—in my opinion. I'm absolutely shocked."
She added, "Take a bite," am I the only one or is this not good? I would never allow my daughters to wear this shirt. I mean, am I the only one or is this clearly wrong to everyone?" The 32-year-old woman clarified that she raised the issue on TikTok to gauge others' opinions, and it was evident that other people shared her views on the matter. "This shirt gives implications. This shirt is for a child aged six to seven years and I don’t think that’s appropriate."
