US Central Command announced early Friday that its forces successfully destroyed a Houthi ground control station located in an area under their control in Yemen within the past 24 hours. The statement added that this ground control station posed a clear and imminent threat to US forces, coalition forces, and commercial ships in the region. This action was taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer for US ships, coalition forces, and commercial vessels.
It is noted that the Houthis have been attacking ships in the Red Sea bound for Israel since November last year, claiming that their attacks support the Palestinian people in Gaza. Last month, a drone launched by the Houthis reached Tel Aviv, resulting in one death and several injuries, prompting Israel to respond by bombing the port of Hodeidah in Yemen. Houthi attacks have disrupted navigation in the Red Sea, forcing many ships and shipping companies to seek alternative routes. The US has established an international coalition to secure navigation in the Red Sea, but the coalition has not been able to stop Houthi attacks despite conducting strikes on their positions in Yemen multiple times.
