A murder committed by a husband against his wife, while living in the same house with her corpse for two weeks, has shocked the Egyptian public due to the gruesomeness of the incident and the husband's strange behavior. The suspect confessed to committing the crime and provided details about the circumstances and motivations behind it.
According to local media reports on Wednesday, the accused admitted to investigating authorities that he ended his wife's life by hitting her with a "wooden stick" until she succumbed to the torture in one of the villages of Farshout, in Qena Governorate, Upper Egypt. He stated that he had married the victim through a customary marriage and that they had a one-and-a-half-year-old daughter together. He mentioned that he frequently quarreled with his wife due to her "loud voice," which led him to hit her as a form of punishment, but she would repeat the behavior despite his constant assaults.
The accused added that he had a fight with his wife and struck her with the wooden stick until she died, then he carried her body and placed it on the bed in their bedroom, covering it with a sheet. He continued to live with her in the house for two weeks, leading a normal life with his infant daughter, although he would take his child at night and sleep in his car due to the foul odor that developed over time from the corpse.
Investigations by the criminal investigations department in Qena confirmed that the victim was 29 years old. Her decomposed body was found covered on her bed last Sunday, nearly two weeks after her murder in Farshout. It was revealed that the perpetrator was her husband, who was known to use drugs and had a history of physical abuse against her, according to testimonies from neighbors. The suspect was arrested and confessed to the crime, while the infant daughter was placed in a care facility.
