Former U.S. President Donald Trump criticized crime in Chicago and lamented Kamala Harris's candidacy, stating he is competing against candidates as he described. In a post on "Truth Social" before the first day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Trump highlighted recent crime statistics in the city. He stated, "Crime in America is out of control. I will make it, along with the economy, inflation, strong borders, and energy dominance, my top priority."
He added, "The Democrats are holding their convention in Chicago despite 117 people being shot, 17 of whom were killed, during the Fourth of July weekend, and 40 people shot this week." He continued, "This is a war zone, and it will be treated accordingly. I will reduce the crime rate in America to a fraction of what it is today. Mothers will no longer lose their children because weak liberal politicians have abandoned securing a crime-free United States! I will stop violent crime in America."
Trump's comments came after Mony Jacobs, whose son was killed in Chicago last year, joined "Fox & Friends" to discuss her quest for answers and the impact of lenient crime policies on communities in America. She said, "We are losing our young people; we are not losing our elderly at the same rate. They don't even get a chance to grow up." She continued, "I will never know how I will feel watching my grandchild; we are losing our future... wondering what could drive you to intervene and do what you are supposed to do to protect the community? You are not doing it, because if you did, we would be able to get answers about everything."
In an additional post, Trump stated, "The Democrats executed the first 'coup' ever in America. Joe Biden was told, 'Sorry, Joe, you are losing to Trump, and you cannot defeat him; you are out.' So now, for the first time in American history, I will have to defeat candidates, and the second is radical left Marxism, comrade Kamala Harris." He explained, "This is not fair and may even be another form of election interference, but the good news is that defeating her should be easier than defeating Joe because the United States will never allow itself to become a communist country. Are the Democrats a 'threat to democracy?'"
