Lebanon's Education Minister, Rima Karami, announced that the Ministry of Education and Higher Education is addressing the official exams issue with "the utmost responsibility and caution" given the exceptional circumstances the country is currently facing.
After participating in a parliamentary education committee meeting, Karami explained that the upcoming phase will involve meetings with security experts from the Lebanese Ministry of Defense to gain accurate assessments that will inform decisions about the exam plan, whether to maintain or revise it.
She emphasized that ensuring the safety and security of students is the top priority. She urged students to continue their studies while awaiting the final decision, affirming that time dedicated to academic pursuits benefits their readiness for any future educational path.
The minister noted that any decision issued by the parliamentary committee or that becomes law is binding for the executive authority. She assured that the ministry considers all observations, including those from MPs, stakeholders, and security assessments.
The discussions also included a comparison between the current situation and last year's conditions, along with new security and logistical challenges. She remarked that these points were thoroughly presented for the first time within the Ministry of Education.
Karami added that preparations for the exam process had begun normally, including the distribution of centers, but recent developments necessitated a reevaluation of the plan.
She concluded by stating that the ministry approaches the file calmly and scientifically, and any decision made will be based on a comprehensive assessment that balances students' right to education with their right to safety.
