Rising Tensions Near Nabatieh as Lebanese Army Relocates to Sidon

Rapid developments are occurring in Southern Lebanon, specifically around the city of Nabatieh, amid reports of Israeli advancement towards Jarmaq and from Kfar Tibnit towards Upper Nabatieh.

Recent field reports indicate that a Lebanese Army force has left the Al Maabar Barracks in Kfar Tibnit, Nabatieh District, heading towards the city of Sidon via the Jarmaq – Kafr Rumman road.

Conversely, army units continue to maintain their positions and deployment in the Marjayoun District, particularly in Marjayoun Barracks, Qlaiat Barracks, and positions in the town of Ibl al-Saqi.

The army also remains present in the Hasbaya District, where units are spread across several towns, actively monitoring security developments and movements in the south.

Effectively, the army’s withdrawal from Kfar Tibnit means the absence of any Lebanese military force in the Nabatieh area towards Kfar Tibnit. Notably, the army had been transporting personnel to Al Maabar Barracks over the past days, with its vehicles frequently spotted on the Zefta-Nabatieh road.

Militarily, reaching Nabatieh is deemed a critical move with Israel attempting to impose its strategic agenda over a vast southern expanse through force. Nabatieh is a key stronghold and operational base for Hezbollah.

Military sources stated to "Lebanon24" that the Israeli army aims to expand maneuvers towards Nabatieh, utilizing high-altitude terrains currently beyond Hezbollah’s reach due to Israeli control.

Regaining control of the city could stem from two areas, Kfar Tibnit and Jarmaq, as the Israeli army may advance from Kfar Tibnit towards Upper Nabatieh, approaching the city’s outskirts. Meanwhile, penetration from Jarmaq implies Israeli forces have severed the Kharadali route and moved closer to Doha Kafr Rumman, effectively isolating the Alayashiyah and Al-Mahmudiyah paths and completely cutting off the Kharadali road.

Significantly, the Israeli army’s push towards Nabatieh would lead to the complete isolation of the eastern sector from the south, as Nabatieh is a primary passageway currently open towards the Beqaa Valley.

Simultaneously, Israeli control over Nabatieh and its surroundings aligns with airstrikes targeting the region nearby. Any occupation there might see extensive destruction, especially if Israeli forces solidify field control over Kafr Rumman and Nabatieh and their vicinity.
