G7 Highlights Effort to Prevent Iran’s Nuclear Armament and Enhance Global Shipping Security

In their closing statement on Wednesday, the Group of Seven (G7) underscored that the agreement between the United States and Iran aims to prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

The statement highlighted the importance of addressing Iran's missile threats and emphasized that the freedom of navigation and the right of passage without restrictions are fundamental to international trade.

The G7 also noted that the UK, France, and other nations will contribute to safeguarding navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, alongside verifying mine clearance to ensure the security of the vital waterway.

The statement emphasized that the unrestricted right of passage in the Strait of Hormuz is a cornerstone of international commerce.

The communiqué expressed support for an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and the Lebanese leadership’s efforts to disarm Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, the United States and other G7 countries plan to intensify efforts to end the war in Ukraine by increasing pressure on Russia. This includes imposing tougher sanctions on the oil and gas sectors and expanding the supply of long-range weapons and air defense systems to Kyiv, as detailed in the summit’s statement.

The G7 stated its commitment to reinforcing sanctions on Russia, targeting its oil and gas sectors, alongside boosting air defense capabilities, additional systems, and interceptive missiles, as well as long-range weapons to Ukraine.

During the G7 summit in France, U.S. President Donald Trump sent messages to Iran, Israel, and Syria. Trump emphasized that the main goal of the agreement with Iran is to prevent it from possessing a nuclear weapon, warning of severe consequences if it does.

He expressed confidence that the agreement with Iran is fair, praising the "wise leadership now" in Tehran.
