Israeli sources have disclosed to Channel 15 that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is awaiting approval from U.S. President Donald Trump to take control of a Hezbollah base entrenched within the strategic Ali Taher heights, located east of Nabatieh city.
The sources also noted that Trump has requested Netanyahu to delay this operation, as negotiations with the Iranian side are still ongoing. The Israeli military estimates that between 30 and 40 members of Hezbollah's Badr unit are trapped inside the site, including several leaders.
Six Israeli attacks have failed to capture the strategic hill before and after the ceasefire agreement was implemented last month. Israeli forces were compelled to reposition on the hill's outskirts.
The Ali Taher hill is considered one of the most prominent strategic elevations in the south, overseeing wide areas of Nabatieh and Iqlim al-Tuffah, and providing a view toward parts of southern Lebanon all the way to areas near the Israeli border. Tel Aviv claims the site has historically housed facilities and locations used for military and surveillance purposes due to its height and commanding location.
