Lavrov Advocates Comprehensive Agreements for Iran Crisis Resolution

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized the need for comprehensive agreements to resolve the conflict involving Iran, underscoring that a political solution is the sole path to alleviating regional tensions.

In his remarks to journalists at the conclusion of his visit to Mozambique, Lavrov stated that Russia maintains a unified stance on developments concerning Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf region. He added, "This dispute must be resolved, and it can only be achieved through an agreement that considers the interests of all parties—not just Iran, its neighbors, and the United States, but also all countries affected by the current economic repercussions."

Lavrov's comments came at the end of his African tour, which began on July 6 and included stops in Ethiopia and Niger before concluding in Mozambique. The visit focused on strengthening political, economic, and security cooperation between Russia and African nations.

The tour aimed to prepare for the third Russia-Africa summit scheduled in Moscow on October 28-29, 2026, alongside supporting partnerships in energy sectors, including nuclear energy, enhancing security cooperation with Sahel Coalition countries, and promoting development efforts and natural resource utilization across the African continent.
