Former US President Donald Trump has once again stirred controversy by sharing an artificial intelligence-generated video in which he showcased his signature dance, while announcing a proposal to rename the state of New Mexico to 'New America.'
Trump shared the video on his platform 'Truth Social,' accompanied by a caption stating: 'Many people have suggested changing the name of New Mexico to New America.'
Trump expressed his admiration for the idea, describing the proposed name as 'more prestigious and beautiful' for the state's residents. He added, referring to New Mexico: 'What a great idea... I love it.'
In the same post, Trump reiterated his claims regarding election fraud in the state, labeling New Mexico as one of the regions experiencing, as he alleges, widespread electoral manipulation.
Trump offered no evidence to support this allegation in his post and did not clarify whether his remarks on changing the state's name represented an official proposal his administration would adopt, or merely support for an idea suggested by others.
Trump's proposal comes following similar suggestions he has made about geographical names, including the usage of 'Gulf of America' instead of the Gulf of Mexico in official US references.
Additionally, Trump recently shared content indicating a preference for naming the shared Lake Ontario between the US and Canada as 'Lake America.'
However, changing the name of a US state is fundamentally different from renaming a geographical landmark, as the name New Mexico is enshrined in the state constitution and related legislation and governmental entities. Trump did not announce any legal actions to initiate renaming New Mexico to 'New America' in his post.
