Iranian media, citing a statement from the Astan Quds Razavi, announced that the remains of the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will be buried in the 'Dar al-Dhikr' portico within the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad, northeastern Iran, near the sacred mausoleum.
According to the Fars News Agency, Khamenei's remains, alongside family members who perished during the war, will be interred in this historical portico, which is one of the most prominent within the Razavi Shrine, notable for its proximity to the holy shrine.
The announcement followed the arrival of the plane carrying Khamenei's body at Mashhad Airport, after it was transported from Iraq, where funeral ceremonies were held in the cities of Najaf and Karbala.
The burial comes after a week of mourning ceremonies, during which his body was taken through several Iranian and Iraqi cities, drawing large crowds that displayed images of Khamenei and Iranian flags.
