Tensions Escalate in Southern Iran Amid Fresh U.S. Blockade Measures

Early Wednesday morning, Iranian media reported the sound of explosions in various southern regions of the country, with air defense systems activated around the Bushehr nuclear plant.

Washington confirmed the reinstatement of a blockade on Iran.

The U.S. military announced on Tuesday that it had launched strikes on Iran for the fourth consecutive day. Additionally, Washington initiated the activation of its naval blockade on Iranian ports. According to the military, "more than 20 warships belonging to the navy and hundreds of military aircraft are active across the Middle East."

Previously, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) stated on Platform X that the strikes aim to "weaken Iranian capabilities used to attack commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz." CENTCOM highlighted that the strikes came as "U.S. forces prepare to reactivate the naval blockade on Iranian ports and coastal areas."

Explosions were heard on Iran's Qeshm Island near the Strait of Hormuz, reported Iran's Fars News Agency, adding that the island's Musann region had been repeatedly struck by "the American enemy" in recent days.

Tasnīm News Agency also cited reports from the electricity company in Kish, southern Iran, of "American projectiles exploding near the Kish power plant, resulting in taking several production units offline." It added that "today's American attacks on Kish Island's port damaged several boats."

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated, "We targeted the Sheikh Isa base in Bahrain and the Ali Al Salem base in Kuwait," adding, "As long as American evil remains in the region, not a drop of oil or gas will be exported. The American aggressions will only delay the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz."

Kuwait reported that 4 soldiers were injured when Iran targeted a warship, noting that they received treatment and are in stable condition.
