A 'Bloomberg' report highlights Iraq's strategic use of an extensive fleet of trucks to transport oil through Syria, amid escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, establishing Syria as a key oil export hub in the Middle East.
The agency noted, "Iraq is deploying a large number of trucks to move oil products across Syria, rerouting transport away from the Strait of Hormuz, swiftly turning its neighbor into a major export center in the Middle East."
The report further explained, "The cargo is transported by thousands of trucks on a route that can take up to four days to reach Syria's Mediterranean ports."
In a related development, Syria and Iraq signed two memorandums of understanding in Washington yesterday to revive the Kirkuk-Baniyas pipeline, aimed at restoring a flow of two million barrels per day and reinforcing Syria's position as a regional energy corridor.
