The General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division has released the following statement:
On July 14, 2026, the Zgharta Traffic Division of the Regional Gendarmerie Unit received information about a network involved in forging and promoting Syrian driving licenses to Syrian nationals residing in Lebanon.
Following this, the division initiated its procedures and successfully apprehended the Syrian national:
- D. M. J. (born in 2006)
He was found in possession of a forged Syrian driving license.
During the investigation, he confessed to obtaining the license from:
- L. S. (born 1971, Lebanese)
for a fee of $70, after sending a copy of his civil status extract, his father's ID, and blood type via WhatsApp to facilitate his movement across security checkpoints.
Following further surveillance, L. S. was lured and arrested. She confessed to supplying the arrested individual with the driving license and was in contact with a Syrian man known only as Ibrahim (whose full identity remains unknown). He was responsible for securing the licenses by collecting necessary documents placed at a predetermined location.
She also admitted to providing more than 20 driving licenses to Syrian residents in Lebanon for $25 each, claiming ignorance that they were forged.
The arrested individuals and seized items have been transferred to the Tripoli Judicial Division in the Judicial Police Unit for necessary legal procedures, as directed by the competent judiciary, and investigations continue to identify and arrest other involved parties.
