President Donald Trump has announced that the United States plans to target 'Pickaxe Mountain' in Iran 'very soon', marking a new escalation against a key site linked to Iran's nuclear program.
The location, also known as 'Pickaxe Mountain', is considered one of Iran’s most fortified sites, with networks of deep tunnels believed by experts to be beyond the reach of even the most powerful bunker-busting bombs in the U.S. arsenal.
According to reports from The Wall Street Journal citing U.S. and Israeli officials, Israeli intelligence believes that thousands of centrifuges used for uranium enrichment were moved by Iran to these tunnels last fall, aiming to shield its nuclear program from any future attacks.
The report adds that Israel informed the U.S. of these assessments, asserting that the site has become a key center for Iran's nuclear activity, especially following U.S. and Israeli strikes on major nuclear facilities during the 12-day conflict in June 2025.
The Wall Street Journal noted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to pressure the Trump administration to resume extensive military operations against Iran, aiming to delay its military programs and prevent it from rebuilding its nuclear capabilities.
Trump first mentioned the site in an interview on July 13, describing 'Pickaxe Mountain' as a 'potential target for a significant strike', and has now confirmed that an attack is imminent.
There has been no comment from the Iranian Foreign Ministry or the International Atomic Energy Agency on these remarks, while the White House referred back to the previous positions made by the President regarding the site.
This development comes amid ongoing military tensions between the U.S. and Iran, raising concerns that targeting heavily fortified nuclear sites could lead to a new phase of escalation in the region.
