France's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Iranian chargé d'affaires in Paris on Tuesday in response to an incident involving employees at the French embassy in Tehran, who were reportedly detained and intimidated by Iranian security forces.
The French Foreign Ministry stated it expects Iranian authorities to clarify the circumstances of the incident, hold those responsible accountable, and ensure the safety of the French diplomatic mission and its staff, aligning with international agreements.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot announced on Monday that he had discussed the matter with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, warning that the incident "will not go without consequences."
Conversely, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi posted on "Telegram," informing the French side that what he described as "unconventional and unprofessional behavior" by French diplomats in Iran is "unacceptable."
Araqchi emphasized the importance of respecting the host country's laws and adhering to diplomatic norms and agreements as essential conditions for diplomatic missions to continue their work, urging the French government to take steps to prevent such incidents from recurring.
This development comes amid escalating tensions between Paris and Tehran, with mutual accusations of rule violations, as both France and Iran insist on sticking to their respective stances regarding the incident.
