Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri: Focused on Ceasefire and Full Withdrawal

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri has reaffirmed the strength of his relationship with President Jousef Aoun, emphasizing the need for regional and international guarantees involving Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Iran to maintain Lebanon's stability.

Berri reiterated his unwavering principles, stating, "The only acceptable course, and what we seek yesterday, today, and tomorrow, is the establishment of a ceasefire and the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied Lebanese lands." He further emphasized his firm stance against any direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel and his previously expressed criticism of the framework agreement, which he had once described as ten times worse than the May 17 Agreement.

Commenting on the current political trajectory under President Aoun, Berri expressed skepticism about achieving positive outcomes, noting that "what is happening in the experimental areas underscores our concerns." He clarified that any perceived flexibility or positivity in his statements concerning the current negotiation process was solely linked to the primary objective he has demanded since day one: securing a ceasefire, ensuring a full Israeli withdrawal, and enabling residents to return to their villages and homes. Beyond this, there is no change in his fundamental opposition to transforming this phase into direct political negotiations with Israel or into a path that undermines the Lebanese constants he has repeatedly affirmed.
