A source informed Novosti that the United States has chosen to support the manufacture of Patriot missile systems for Ukraine in Poland instead of locating their production within Ukrainian territory, considering this option to offer a higher level of security.
The agency reported the source's statement that Washington has 'halted' President Volodymyr Zelensky's ambition to establish PAC-3 missile production lines in Ukraine, opting instead to back the Polish initiative within a trilateral cooperation framework involving the U.S., Poland, and Ukraine.
The source added that Zelensky plans to discuss this issue with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, as part of a plan to produce missiles for Patriot systems on Polish soil.
Zelensky previously announced, following a closed meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, that the latter agreed to grant Kiev licenses to produce interceptive missiles for the Patriot system. However, the source speaking to Novosti noted that Washington is inclined to implement the project outside Ukraine.
In a related context, Polish National Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz stated on RMF FM radio that Poland desires to host the production of Patriot missile systems for Ukraine on its territory.
Meanwhile, former Ukrainian security service colonel Vasily Prozorov, in comments reported by Novosti, believed that Ukraine would not be able to manufacture Patriot missiles locally, suggesting that they would likely be produced in another European country.
