The Israeli newspaper "Maariv" reports that the Israeli military is awaiting a decision from political leadership regarding the response to recent attacks launched from Lebanon and Iraq, viewing this as Iran's attempt to test the limits of Israel's responses on multiple fronts.
According to the report, a Hezbollah drone hit an Israeli army engineering vehicle in southern Lebanon, marking the first incident since the ceasefire agreement took effect. Recent days have also seen the launch of several drones from Iraq towards Israel and Jordan.
The report adds that the Iron Dome defense system intercepted three drones over the Dead Sea area, while the Jordanian military reported intercepting two others.
The newspaper notes that Israeli assessments suggest Iran has instructed its allies in Lebanon and Iraq to monitor how Israel responds to what it describes as violations of the ceasefire, aiming to evaluate its military response.
"Maariv" cites a military source stating that the Israeli army intends to retaliate for the attack on the military vehicle in southern Lebanon, though any operation awaits political approval. The scope of the response and potential targets are yet to be determined.
Regarding Iraq, the source elaborated that Israel has not yet reached final conclusions about the militias behind the drone launches.
The report also notes that U.S. and Saudi air forces launched attacks early Wednesday morning targeting Popular Mobilization Forces sites in Iraq, which reportedly resulted in casualties.
