Iran's Supreme Leader Advisor, Mohammad Mokhber, has issued a warning that any attack on what he described as the 'Islamic nation's deterrence system' could alter the strategic balance. He argued that violating Iraq's sovereignty represents a clear breach of the United Nations Charter and reflects policies that undermine regional stability.
Mokhber stated that Iraq's sovereignty and armed forces are integral to the deterrence system, emphasizing that any aggression against them will have strategic consequences.
In Baghdad, Iraqi Armed Forces Spokesperson Sabah Al-Numan announced that the so-called 'Saudi-American' strikes have hindered investigations into the attacks on Saudi oil facilities. He noted that security leaders are working on a comprehensive plan to prevent any assaults and protect Iraq's sovereignty.
Al-Numan stressed that the Iraqi government will not tolerate unauthorized actions or violations originating from Iraqi territory. He affirmed that security forces are solely responsible for managing security matters and that Baghdad is committed to consolidating arms control within the state. He also called on those accusing Iraq of involvement in the attacks to present evidence supporting such claims.
These statements follow the announcement by the Saudi Ministry of Defense, in coordination with US Central Command (CENTCOM), of strikes targeting sites said to belong to Iran-aligned militias in Iraq, in response to attacks on oil facilities within the kingdom.
Conversely, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq denied responsibility for targeting Saudi Arabia, accusing the United States of carrying out an attack on Popular Mobilization Forces and a convoy serving pilgrims in Karbala. They vowed retaliation against what they deemed 'American aggression' at a time of their choosing, and noted that they have given Iraqi government agencies until August 7 to clarify their stance on the developments.
