Sources informed "Al Arabiya/Al Hadath" that Ismail Qaani, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's Quds Force, has arrived in Iraq's capital, Baghdad.
These sources added that during his visit, Qaani met with several leaders from the Popular Mobilization Forces and armed factions, as well as officials from the Coordination Framework.
Qaani's discussions in Baghdad reportedly focus on the weapon control issue among other topics, according to the sources.
Previously, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi had set a final deadline of September 30th for all factions to surrender their weapons to the Iraqi state.
The State Administration Coalition in Iraq also called for adherence to the set timelines for completing the weapon control steps, which are slated to begin after September 30, 2026. They emphasized that any armed activities outside the state's framework will be dealt with under the anti-terrorism law.
Qaani has visited Iraq multiple times since taking over from Qasem Soleimani, who was killed in a U.S. strike near Baghdad's airport in January 2020, though such visits are rarely announced.
