Democratic members of the U.S. Congress have called for clarifications regarding the conditions aboard aircraft carrier 'USS Abraham Lincoln,' following reports indicating food shortages, plumbing failures, and mental health crises among crew members during its longest deployment ever.
In a letter addressed to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Senator Richard Blumenthal urged the navy to clarify the situation aboard the carrier, which has been on deployment for over 250 days without docking on land for more than 200 days, marking a record for consecutive days at sea.
Blumenthal expressed concerns about such prolonged missions, citing "reports of shortages in essential supplies, water contamination, plumbing issues, deteriorating mental health, and safety concerns related to the ship's deck."
Senator Ruben Gallego, in a post on platform X, called for an "official oversight visit by a bipartisan Senate delegation to the Lincoln carrier to investigate the troubling reported conditions."
