In an exclusive statement to 'Wardna', a judicial source has addressed what it termed as inaccuracies put forth by critics of handing over former Syrian regime general Adil Isa to the Syrian state.
The source clarified the response as follows:
- Adil Isa is accused of committing crimes against humanity on Syrian soil and is pursued criminally rather than politically. Therefore, the general amnesty law does not apply to him in any way, especially as he is not convicted yet.
- The extradition was based on the 1952 judicial agreement between Lebanon and Syria, the same agreement under which Assad's opponents were handed over.
- Furthermore, Adil Isa does not hold Lebanese citizenship and therefore is subject to deportation procedures as per judicial directives without any legal flaws.
The source called on the critics to review Lebanese laws and agreements to avoid misinterpretations, especially since some of the critics are former MPs and ministers. They should possess at least a basic understanding of the laws and distinguish between those applicable on Lebanese territory and those that are not.
