U.S. Applauds Lebanon's New Banking Reform Law

The U.S. Embassy has expressed approval of the Lebanese Parliament's enactment of a new law to reform and restructure banks, urging the Lebanese government to continue its efforts to pass the Financial Recovery Law, commonly referred to as the "Financial Gap Law."

The embassy stated that these legislative actions are critical steps toward strengthening Lebanese state institutions, restoring confidence in the financial sector, and promoting sustainable economic recovery.

The U.S. emphasized its unwavering commitment to supporting purposeful, transparent, and accountable reforms, which contribute to long-term stability and prosperity for the Lebanese people.

The American stance follows the Parliament's reopening of the banking reform and restructuring law, initially passed in the summer of 2025, cemented as Law No. 23 on August 14, 2025, to introduce new amendments.

After its enactment, the law faced a challenge before the Constitutional Council, which did not entirely invalidate it but annulled specific parts, leaving other portions intact following constitutional review.
