US Targets Turkish Bank Over Alleged Ties to Iran's Revolutionary Guard

The U.S. Treasury Department announced on Friday the imposition of sanctions on Turkey's 'Golden Global Bank,' citing suspected links to Iran's Revolutionary Guard. This move marks a new step in Washington's broader campaign to intensify financial pressure and economically isolate Tehran.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bissant stated in a release that the recent sanctions targeting financial institutions underscore the United States' commitment to enforcing an economic blockade against Iran. The U.S. aims to cut off channels it claims are assisting Tehran in maintaining its foreign financial dealings.

Bissant indicated that Washington hopes it will not need to sanction additional banks, but tied this to the international community's stance and willingness to cease activities that the U.S. perceives as supportive of the Iranian regime.

He remarked: "We hope there will be no need to impose more sanctions on banks, but this ultimately depends on how quickly the international community recovers its sense and stops supporting the murderous Iranian regime."

The sanctions are part of a broader escalation of Washington's economic campaign against Tehran. The U.S. is targeting banks, institutions, and financial channels it accuses of facilitating Iran's foreign transactions and circumventing imposed restrictions and sanctions.

Through these measures, the U.S. administration aims to further isolate Iran financially and restrict its access to the international financial system, as part of a strategy focused on dialing up economic pressure on Tehran.
