Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon, Chen Chuangdong, paid a visit to the Lebanese Journalists' Syndicate, where he was received by Chairman Joseph Al-Qusayfi, Vice Chairman Salah Taqi Al-Din, and board members Wasif Awad, Yumna Shukr Ghareeb, and colleague Jan Massaad. Al-Qusayfi expressed a warm welcome, highlighting the longstanding relations with China, first established diplomatically in 1971 but rooted in earlier interactions, such as Dr. George Shafik Hatem's contributions during the Chinese revolution, earning high esteem in China as ‘the doctor of the poor.’
The Ambassador acknowledged the strong Chinese-Lebanese ties, emphasizing ongoing trade growth initiatives and investments in Lebanon. He noted, “This year marks the 55th anniversary of our diplomatic relationships, which have witnessed advancements across political, economic, and cultural domains.” Moreover, China consistently supports Lebanon's sovereignty and security in the United Nations and advocates for Israel's withdrawal from occupied lands. China is actively involved in peacekeeping efforts in southern Lebanon, with 8,800 Chinese soldiers deployed there.
Highlighting regional matters, Ambassador Chuangdong stated, “The conflict between the U.S. and Iran was avoidable and challenges the core principle of international respect for sovereignty.” He mentioned China's Middle East initiatives urging stability to be rooted in regional security and economic development. Furthermore, China is in communication with relevant parties to cease fire in Lebanon and support comprehensive peace efforts. Diplomatic dialogues continue between China and regional powers like Qatar and Saudi Arabia. China, shared in coordination with Pakistan, maintains a five-point stance towards peace endeavors.
Emphasizing the broader geopolitical importance, he revealed that China's dialogues with Jordan underscore the Palestinian issue's centrality to regional dynamics.
