Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has launched a satirical critique against the United States following the intensification of economic pressures on Tehran. He argues that Washington is reverting to the same sanction policies it has employed for the past 47 years, which he describes as failing to meet their objectives.
In a post on the 'X' platform on Tuesday, Araqchi stated: 'After 47 years of sanctions, the United States fought a war against Iran on Israel's behalf. The results were catastrophic for America, including its standing on the international stage.'
He added, 'After failing to achieve its goals through sanctions or war, Washington's innovative solution is... more sanctions. Is this serious?'
Araqchi’s comments came in response to an announcement by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bisent on Friday, noting that the European Union has officially joined the U.S.-led effort to heighten Iran's economic isolation, as part of American efforts aimed at preventing Tehran from accessing the global financial system.
In a post on the U.S. Treasury Department's 'X' account, Bisent stated: 'The European Union has formally joined our economic exclusion initiative, and we appreciate its strong and early stance.'
He added that the United States 'stands firmly with its allies to ensure that the Iranian regime can't exploit the global financial system to fund its nuclear ambitions, weapon programs, and proxies of armed groups.'
These developments occur amid escalating economic and political pressure on Iran, with increasing coordination between Washington and its European allies to intensify financial constraints imposed on Tehran. Meanwhile, Iranian leadership continues to assert that sanctions have not succeeded in driving the country to change its stances or abandon its strategic programs over past decades.
