Did "The Simpsons" Really Predict the Chaos in Washington?

Did

The animated series "The Simpsons" continues to surprise its viewers with the similarities between its events and real-life occurrences.

Recently, some fans of the show noticed a resemblance between the riots and the storming of the Capitol Hill building in Washington last Wednesday and a recent episode of the series. The 31st annual episode of the long-running animated show aired on November 1, titled "Treehouse of Horror," featuring a terrifying scene where Springfield, the hometown of the Simpson family, was engulfed in flames, alongside overturned vehicles and broken windows.

Viewers pointed out that the imagery was similar to the pro-Trump rioters who stormed the Capitol last Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including a police officer who died on Friday, forcing lawmakers to shelter and hide in their offices. One fan tweeted, "Once again, The Simpsons saw it coming." Another wrote, "Another prophetic episode from The Simpsons!" Many fans shared images for side-by-side comparison, including a photo of a rioter supporting Trump dressed in a "Viking" costume in the Senate chamber, which closely resembled a character from an episode of The Simpsons, who stood atop the Capitol building waving the American flag.

It is worth noting that "The Simpsons" has predicted several historical events multiple times; the show, which has run for over 30 years, has successfully anticipated various developments, including the COVID-19 pandemic and murder hornets in an episode titled "Marge in Chains" from Season 4, as well as Donald Trump’s presidency in the episode "Bart to the Future" in Season 11. It also predicted Disney’s acquisition of Fox in the episode "When You Dish Upon a Star" and Homer predicting the Higgs boson particle in the "Evergreen Terrace" episode from Season 10.
