Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Airstrikes on Gaza

The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, condemned today, Tuesday, the airstrikes carried out by Israel on the Gaza Strip, describing them as "random and irresponsible." He stated that Israel had caused a previous escalation of violence due to its actions in Jerusalem.

Aboul Gheit remarked that "Israeli violations in Jerusalem and the government's tolerance of Jewish extremists hostile to Palestinians and Arabs have led to this dangerous escalation." He added that the attacks launched by Israel on Gaza are a "pitiful display of force at the expense of children's blood."

He called on the international community to act immediately to stop the violence, saying that "Israeli provocations continue in Jerusalem, defying the feelings of Muslims around the world as they approach Eid al-Fitr."

Meanwhile, foreign ministers of Arab League member states are holding an online meeting today, Tuesday, to discuss the situation in Jerusalem. Violent clashes surged significantly yesterday, Monday, as Israel conducted airstrikes on the Gaza Strip in response to rockets fired by armed Palestinian factions near Jerusalem. Health officials in Gaza reported that at least 20 people, including children, were killed due to the Israeli attacks on the region.
