Judicial sources stated that Egypt's highest civilian court upheld on Monday the death sentences issued against 12 prominent members of the Muslim Brotherhood related to a sit-in in 2013 that ended with security forces killing hundreds of protesters. This ruling, which cannot be appealed, means they could face execution if President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi approves the decision. Among the sentenced are Abdel Rahman al-Bor, described as the group's mufti, Mohamed Beltagy, a former parliament member, and Osama Yassin, a former minister.
