Social media users, particularly on Twitter, launched a significant attack on Egyptian national team star Mohamed Salah, Liverpool's forward, due to a tweet he posted after Danish player Christian Eriksen collapsed during his team’s match against Finland in the UEFA Euro 2020 tournament. Eriksen, a midfielder for the Denmark team, collapsed during the match, which led to global sympathy as many initially feared he had died. He eventually regained consciousness after receiving CPR on the field.
In the hour following Salah's tweet, which featured a photo of him enjoying a vacation in Hurghada on the shores of the Red Sea, he was met with a barrage of criticism from his followers on Twitter.
Fans criticized Salah's apparent disregard for the situation, especially in light of the sympathy expressed by football stars worldwide for Eriksen’s collapse, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Riyad Mahrez, and Raheem Sterling, while Salah appeared smiling on a boat in El Gouna.
The backlash compelled Salah to delete the photo, considering the feelings of fans who were shocked and frightened by the sight of Eriksen collapsing. In the photo, Salah is seen showing off his muscles while wearing shorts and sitting on a boat.
After Eriksen's collapse, the match was halted but later resumed, resulting in Finland winning 1-0 against Denmark.
