Former U.S. President Donald Trump criticized current President Joe Biden for what he claimed was a departure from the "America First" slogan. He also provided advice to Biden ahead of the upcoming summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin. When Trump took office in 2017, he adopted the "America First" slogan, which emphasized focusing on domestic issues more than before, leading to a degree of isolation for Washington from international matters. However, with Biden's presidency, the political slogan in the United States shifted to "America is back," indicating a renewed U.S. involvement in global issues.
Biden reiterated this slogan during the G7 summit held in the UK, marking his first international summit as president, where he aimed to reassure allies who faced difficult years under Trump's administration. Trump released a lengthy statement after his social media accounts were closed, which had typically served as his means of communication with his audience and a platform for attacking his opponents. The statement came shortly after a meeting on the sidelines of the summit between Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Trump wrote: "He (Macron) and other leaders before him in France and Europe have been robbing the United States like never before." The former president stated, "We were treated very unfairly with horrible trade deals, and we paid a big part of their defense." He continued: "They have been taking advantage of the United States, and of course, they love Biden because he will allow them to return to their old ways of stealing from our country."
Trump also addressed the upcoming summit between Biden and Putin, wishing him luck and hoping he doesn't fall asleep. Trump has long referred to Biden as "Sleepy Joe," a name not typically used in American political discourse. Additionally, the former president reiterated claims of election fraud in the 2020 U.S. elections that led to Biden's victory and ascendance to power.
