Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein met with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Thursday on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum. The Foreign Ministry stated that the minister expressed his desire to work on supporting and enhancing relations between Baghdad and Tehran in a way that reflects their specificity and strategic importance. He emphasized his commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields in the upcoming phase to achieve the mutual interests of both countries and activate the agreements reached with the Iraqi government.
The statement added that both sides exchanged views and ideas on regional and international issues of common interest, as well as discussing the developments in the region, the challenges it faces, and the necessity of supporting peace and stability through joint efforts. The statement also noted that Mohammad Javad Zarif affirmed his country's commitment to deepening the bonds of relations between the two countries, expressing gratitude for Iraq's efforts aimed at promoting de-escalation and avoiding escalation in the region.
