The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces in Lebanon issued the following statement: "At 3:30 AM on 17/6/2021, members of the airport inspection unit in the Directorate of Security of Embassies, Ministries, and Public Institutions succeeded in thwarting a smuggling operation of $480,000 in counterfeit bills, which were seized and hidden within luggage, during the attempt of three citizens to leave Lebanese territory heading to Turkey. They are:
1. M. M. (born in 1982)
2. W. K. (born in 1994)
3. A. A. (born in 1998)
During the investigation conducted by the Administrative and Judicial Police Unit, the second and third individuals admitted that M. M. was the mastermind of the operation, coordinating with someone in Turkey. They, along with the seized items, were placed in the custody of the Anti-Financial Crimes and Money Laundering Bureau in the Judicial Police Unit for further investigation, based on the instructions of the competent judiciary."
