The General Railways Company, affiliated with the Ministry of Transport, revealed new developments today regarding the railway link between Iraq and Iran. The company's director general, Talib Jawad Al-Husseini, stated in an interview reported by the Iraqi News Agency that "the coming days will witness discussions on what was stated in the signed memorandum of understanding to commence the implementation of the railway link between Shalamcheh and Basra." He added that "the link is of special importance as a vital strategic line," expressing hope that "the link will reach the implementation stage in the coming days after the government has announced its approval." Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi announced last Thursday that negotiations with Iran to build a railway line between Basra and Shalamcheh have reached their final stages.
