The Egyptian government is preparing to announce the first Nasr E70 electric car, manufactured for the first time in Egypt, with indications that it will be offered at reasonable prices. According to official information, the launch of the Nasr E70 is set for 2022, following practical tests to ensure the Chinese car’s suitability for Egyptian conditions.
The vehicle, overseen by the Egyptian Ministry of Public Enterprise Sector, is currently being tested at an electric car charging station in Sheikh Zayed City (west of Cairo). This initiative represents a revival of production at the Nasr Automobile company, which was established in the 1960s and holds significance for Egyptians.
Egyptian reports indicate that the revival of Nasr Automobile will be in collaboration with major automotive manufacturers in China to produce electric vehicles. A memorandum of understanding was signed between Nasr Automobile and Dongfeng in June 2020 to produce the Nasr E70.
Egypt aims for a local component percentage in the new Egyptian car to be around 58% in the initial phase, with plans to increase this over the years of implementation. The starting price of the car will be 290,000 Egyptian pounds, and it will be available in three categories based on battery capacity and range.
