A number of applications that provided access to a vast library of movies for free streaming have made their way onto iPhones without Apple’s knowledge. Hackers managed to infiltrate several illegal streaming apps, allowing iPhone owners to watch the latest TV shows and movies without spending a penny.
Despite being available in the App Store, these secret streaming apps are illegal and can lead to arrest while watching copyrighted material for free, along with other severe consequences.
Apple is very strict about the types of software allowed in its App Store, which is the only way to install new apps and games on iPhones and iPads. Similarly, Google has very similar policies and screening processes for apps that enter its store; thus, iPhone and iPad users wishing to download this type of streaming app typically need to jump through a series of complicated hoops.
On iPhones, this generally involves jailbreaking the device, which allows users to download from other app stores. On Android, users need to permit installation of software from external sources. Both cases carry a number of risks, including malware, ransomware, and voiding device warranties.
The latest group of apps is particularly interesting because it has managed to bypass the App Store gatekeepers.
Although it might be tempting to check out these apps or any that claim to offer the same function, it’s worth remembering that watching anything that should be paid for for free—whether on a laptop, mobile phone, or using a decoder—is illegal and can have serious consequences, according to the British newspaper Express.
